Russell Westbrook III is a veteran American basketball player who, as of May 2025, plays for the Denver Nuggets as their point guard in the NBA. Westbrook was drafted by the Seattle SuperSonics/Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2008 NBA Draft as the fourth overall pick in the second round. Westbrook is an NBA MVP and a nine-time All-Star as of May 2025.

Westbrook was born on November 12, 1988, in Long Beach, California, U.S., to his parents Russell Westbrook Jr. and Shannon Horton. He has a younger brother named Raynard Westbrook. Nina Westbrook, his college sweetheart, is Russell Westbrook's wife, as per People. The couple has three kids together, a boy and two twin girls. His eldest son, Noah Russell Westbrook, was born in May 2017. Skye and Jordan Westbrook were born in 2018.

In 2006, Russell Westbrook committed to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and ended up playing two seasons with the UCLA Bruins men's basketball team. In his first season at UCLA, Westbrook played 39 games and averaged 3.4 points, 0.8 rebounds, and 0.7 assists as per his college roster. He scored a season-high 11 points twice and finished his freshman season having scored in double figures three times. During his second season that Westbrook averaged 12.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, and led the team with 4.3 assists per game as per his college roster.

Westbrook earned Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year honors and was named to the third team all-Pac-10 in 2008. He led UCLA to the Final Four of the NCAA tournament, where they fell to Memphis in the National Semifinal. Westbrook averaged 8.3 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists and one steal per game over 75 games as per his college roster.

Russell Westbrook graduated from Leuzinger High School in Lawndale, California. He was 5 feet 8 inches (1.73 m) tall and played as a point guard. Westbrook averaged 25.1 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.1 steals and 2.3 assists per game during his senior season as per college roster. He led his high school team to a 25-4 overall record and a CIF Southern Section Division I-AA quarterfinal playoff appearance. Westbrook was ranked the No. 2 shooting guard in the West by the Scout and as one of the top 25 shooting guards in the country as per his college roster.
