What's Russell Westbrook's career average?

Last Modified Oct 29, 2023 11:31 GMT

A veteran of 15 seasons in the NBA, Russell Westbrook is the current point guard for the Los Angeles Clippers. Born in Long Beach, California, in 1988, the 34-year old has had a good career so far, but the last few seasons have been below par as per his standards. Westbrook, who at one point of time was averaging nearly 25 points per game each season, has now fallen below 20 ppg in the last couple of years.

Known around the NBA universe as the leading triple-double player in the history of the league, the 6 foot 4 inch guard has drawn criticism from many for stat padding. While he has all the numbers in his favor, his inability to win a championship has many experts and fans thinking that his contributions on the floor do not benefit the team as a whole.

Having said that, Westbrook has managed to put in some excellent performances where he has led the team in scoring, rebounds, or assists on multiple occasions throughout his career thus far. He has 50 games with 40 or more points and of those he has scored 50 or more in five games.

Let us now take a look at Russell Westbrook and his career average in terms of points on a year by year basis.

Russell Westbrook Career Average

Over the course of his fifteen years in the NBA, Russell Westbrook has a career average of 22.4 points per game. In his rookie season, Russ averaged 15.3 ppg. The next season was more or less the same with Westbrook averaging 16.1 ppg.

The 2017 MVP then started to contribute much more to the team’s offense as he would then go on to post an average of above 20 ppg for the next four years in a row. From the 2014-15 season till the end of his journey with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Westbrook averaged above 25 ppg in three out of the five seasons while averaging above 20 ppg in the remaining two seasons.

Westbrook would continue the trend in the 2019-2020 season when he spent one year with the Houston Rockets. He finished the year averaging 27.2 ppg. Russell was then traded to the Washington Wizards for the 2020-21 season and once again he put up 22.2 ppg in his lone season in the capitol.

It was after his move to the Lakers in 2021 that his production fell drastically as he played alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis. In one and half seasons with the Lakers, Russ’ average points dropped to 18.5 and 15.9 respectively. It seems even after being traded to the Clippers, there hasn’t been any improvement as he averaged 15.8 in the remaining 21 games of the 2022-23 season.

However, with the new season just getting underway, it remains to be seen if Westbrook can once again stir up the magic which he had just a few years ago.

What is Russell Westbrook's Career Low?

In terms of points per game scored, Russell Westbrook’s career low remains his rookie season in the NBA. Scoring 15.3 ppg that year, in 82 games played, Westbrook started only 65 of those games. Despite that, he was still averaging around 32 minutes per game. In his rookie season, Westbrook scored 1,256 points.
