Hosts Nepal and Bangladesh got off to a flying start in the 3rd South Asian Basketball Association (SABA) basketball championship for men here at Kathmandu, Nepal.
In the opening match of the championship, hosts Nepal defeated Maldives 108 – 89. Nepal took the first quarter. Despite Maldives dominance in the last quarter and taking it by 34 – 27, it could not stop the hosts to win the match comfortably by 108 – 89. Sadish Pradhan top scored with 30 points for the hosts.
In the Second match of the day, Bangladesh defeated Sri Lanka 72 – 70 to start their campaign with a win.
Sri Lanka will play Nepal while India will face Bangladesh in the day 2 of the championship.
The South Asian Basketball Association (SABA) basketball championship for men will be held from 13 May to 17 May 2014 at Kathmandu, Nepal. Five countries – hosts Nepal, India, Maldives, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh – are participating in the biggest basketball event of South Asia.
