Sacramento Kings fire Head Coach Michael Malone

Michael Malone

According to sources, the Sacramento Kings have fired Head Coach Michael Malone. The news comes as a huge surprise after the team’s hot 5-1 start to the season. The team’s record currently stands at 11-13 and their starting center DeMarcus Cousins recovering from viral meningitis is a huge reason for the team losing 8 out of their last 10 games.

Malone was the first Head Coach since Vivek Ranadive took over as the primary owner after 2012-13 season. The team’s assistant Coach Tyrone Corbin will take over as interim Head Coach until any further announcement is made. Corbin will be the seventh Head Coach of the franchise since it last made its Playoff appearance in 2006. The reason behind the sudden unexpected firing seems to be Malone not meeting the expected win-loss record that the owner expected from him.

Things were heading in the right direction

If it wasn’t for Cousins’ infection and time off, the team was headed in the right direction since they had signed Rudy Gay to a three-year extension and Darren Collison was making full use of his first time as a starting point guard. The starters and the bench were playing great basketball, but looks like that isn’t going to happen any longer with the team now requiring to get adjusted to a new Head Coach. So far no Head Coach is said to be the front-runner for the job.
