The Pacific Division rivals of Sacramento Kings, and the Golden State Warriors will renew their rivalry for the first time in 2025. The two Californian teams meet on Sunday. Both teams have started the new year with wins on their record and will be hoping to continue this positive run.

The Kings and the Warriors have been on a similar trajectory, despite the Bay Area team holding a 2.5-game lead. In their last two fixtures, the Warriors have hosted the Philadelphia 76ers and the Memphis Grizzlies and beat both teams.

The Sacramento Kings and Golden State Warriors aim for the playoffs after a disappointing play-in exit last season, but both teams have been inconsistent. Both teams have been struggling for wins in recent weeks and will need to put more effort into entering the automatic playoff spots at the end of the season.

Sacramento Kings vs Golden State Warriors Starting Lineups and Depth Chart

The Sacramento Kings have finally started to turn things around after they endured a tough end to the year. Losing six games in a row at the end of December, the Kings have since won three games and look like a completely rejuvenated team. DeAaron Fox has been on the forefront of everything good for the Kings this season. However, the star could miss his first game this weekend as he recovers from a right glute contusion.

Keegan Murray will be another name who could potentially miss out on the match against the Warriors. The Sacramento forward has been an important player for his team and has started 32 of their 35 games played this season.

The Sacramento Kings' starting five in the absence of Foxx and Murray should have the likes of Malik Monk, Keon Ellis, DeMar De Rozan, Trey Lyle and Domantas Sabonis.

On the other hand, the Golden State Warriors will be missing four players as they host the Kings at the Chase Center. Jonathan Kuminga and Gary Peyton II were ruled out after their previous game against the Grizzlies. Brandin Podziemski have been out since the end of 2024 while Sateph Curry sat out the game against the Grizzlies as part of his knee tendinitis management. Both could miss the fixture against the Kings as well.

The hosts have been quite similar to the Kings in terms of their season. Despite sitting two places above their opponents, the Warriors find themselves struggling to have a consistent season. Losing nine of their 14 games in December, it is only a strong start that has allowed the Bay Area team to still be within the play-in spots.

Without Curry, the Warriors should have Denis Schroder, Buddy Hield, Andrew Wiggins, Draymond Green and Trayce Jackson-Davis in their starting line-up.

Sacramento Kings vs Golden State Warriors preview

The Sacramento Kings are starting to have a turnaround after their slow start to the 2024-25 NBA season. After just two wins in their first four fixtures, the Kings struggled further in November, managing only seven wins and nine losses. In December, this figure worsened with five wins and eight losses.

However, a win on Dec. 30 and two wins since then have allowed the Kings to gain some momentum, which they will ride into during their fixture against the Warriors.

Before the recent three-win streak, the Kings were on a six-game losing streak, struggling to form a meaningful run. Three consecutive wins is also the biggest win streak the Kings have achieved this season and will hope to extend it for the first time this year.

De'Aaron Fox will be a significant loss for the Kings, as the guard was averaging 26.7 points and 6.2 assists per game before his injury.

The Golden State team on the other hand enter this fixture with two wins in a row after struggling to get back to wins in December. Achieving their worst monthly win and loss record with four wins and nine losses, the Warriors had an incredible downfall after a strong start.

Leading their conference early in the season, the Warriors have since fallen behind. The San Francisco team average the third most rebounds in the league while boasting the eighth-best defense.

Steph Curry, who has missed eight games due to injury this season, currently leads the Warriors in points with 22.3 points per game. However, it is the team's overall performance that has kept them afloat this season despite a mid-season collapse last month.
