The Sacramento Kings and the Philadelphia 76ers hope to start the new year on a positive note as they face off on the first day of 2025. Both squads have been inconsistent to start the season, finishing the year below the .500 mark.
The Sacramento Kings fired their head coach, Mike Brown, a few days before the new year as a result of their disappointing start. The team entered the season with high expectations after acquiring former NBA All-Star DeMar DeRozan. However, they have underperformed, holding a 14-19 record, which places them 12th in the Western Conference.
De’Aaron Fox has been carrying the load for the Kings, averaging 26.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 6.3 assists, while center Domantas Sabonis backs him up with averages of 20.8 points, 13.6 rebounds and 6.1 assists.
On the other hand, the 76ers have also struggled to start the season, winning only twice in their first 12 games. However, Philly has recovered from its early-season slump, winning 11 of its last 15 outings. This improvement has brought their record to 13-17, moving them up to the 11th seed in the Eastern Conference.

Like the Kings, the 76ers also signed a former All-Star in the offseason, bringing in Paul George as a free agent. George has averaged 15.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game thus far.
Tyrese Maxey has been leading Philadelphia with 25.9 points and 5.3 assists per game, while former MVP Joel Embiid has been slowly getting back to form, putting up 23.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.
