American basketball coach Gregg Popovich of the San Antonio Spurs has been voted as the 2014 Red Auerbach NBA Coach of the Year, his third in this category after the Spurs finished their season with the league’s best record at 62-20.

Popovich now joins former Milwaukee Bucks coach Don Nelson and former Miami Heat coach Pat Riley as the only coaches to have won this prestigious award three times, with him winning it back in for the 2002-03 and 2011-12 season.

In his 18th season as head coach of the Spurs, the San Antonio based team have ended its streak of securing a win in least 50 matches for the 15th straight season, an NBA record in itself.
