San Antonio Spurs vs Houston Rockets preview

The Spurs have been forced to navigate the start of the season without coach Gregg Popovich who suffered a serious health issue on Saturday. As per ESPN, there’s “a great level of concern around the situation” and he is out indefinitely.

While San Antonio was without Popovich on Saturday, it did manage a 113-103 win against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Spurs, however, suffered a 113-104 loss on Monday. Victor Wembanyama had 24 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, nine blocks and three steals in the loss.

The Rockets are coming off of a commanding 109-97 win against the New York Knicks on Monday. Alperen Sengun had a great game with 25 points and 14 rebounds, while Fred VanVleet and Jalen Green chipped in with 19 and 15 points, respectively.

Houston has looked good but needs to continue improving if the team is to stand a chance of making it out of the playoffs, especially against the OKC Thunder who have dominated the competition so far with a franchise-best 7-0 start to the season.

San Antonio Spurs vs Houston Rockets betting props

Victor Wembanyama’s blocks total is set at 3.5. He has crossed that mark in three of the past five games and should be good to do so on Wednesday as well.

Alperen Sengun’s points total is set at 18.5. While he has been having a decent season averaging 16.4 points, he should have trouble going to the basket against Wembanyama. In the first two games against San Antonio, Sengun averaged just 8.0 points per game and shot a combined 7 of 22. Bet on the under here.

San Antonio Spurs vs Houston Rockets prediction

The oddsmakers favor the Rockets to get a win at home. While we expect the same, they could have trouble in covering the 6.5-point spread. This should be a competitive game with the team total staying under 213.5 points.
