Sterling “Scoot” Henderson is an American Point Guard, currently playing for the Portland Trail Blazers in the NBA. Drafted third overall in the 2023 NBA Draft, the rookie is notable for having been a part of the NBA G League Ignite team.

Throughout the 2022/23 season, Henderson competed in 19 games with the Ignite team while averaging 16.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 6.8 assists and 1.1 steals per game. He also shot 42.9% from the field, including 27.4% from deep. He also led Team Scoot as the Captain at the first ever NBA G League Next Up Game.

Scoot Henderson enrolled at Carlton. J. Kell High School in Georgia and played basketball for the Kell Longhorns. During his sophomore season in 2020, he scored 49 points in an overtime win against the Miller Grove Wolverines. In the Class 5A Tournament, he averaged 24 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals per game and led his team to the semi-finals. The Atlanta Journal Constitution declared him as the Class 5A Player of the Year as well as a member of first team 5 All-State.

Henderson also led Class 6A to the state title game while averaging 32 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists per game. The Atlanta Journal Constitution again declared him as Class 6A Player of the Year as well as 6A All-State honors. Being the top scorer in the history of his school, his jersey was retired in January 2023.

Scoot Henderson’s NBA G League Team Performance (2021-2023)

Scoot Henderson was one of the most talented players during his tenure with the NBA G League Ignite. Throughout his two seasons with the team, he played 29 games while averaging 15.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 1.6 steals per game. He also shot 44.5% from the field, including 26.3% from deep. Henderson played the Rising Stars Game in the 2021/22 season as one of the four players from the Ignite team, thereby scoring 2 points for Team Payton.

During the 2022/23 season he played for Ignite in two exhibition games against Victor Wembanyama and his team Metropolitans 92. While he won the first game, an injury caused him to lose the second game. He also ended up playing for the second consecutive time in the Rising Stars Challenge and scored 4 points for Team Jason Terry.
