Scoot Henderson is one of the fastest and most explosive rookies in the NBA. He has a quick first step and uses his speed and athletic ability to blow by defenders. He was the third overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft and was selected by the Portland Trail Blazers. Henderson is built like a linebacker and looks like a NBA veteran rather than a rookie.

Henderson did not take the traditional college route into the NBA and rather chose the NBA G-League route. He spent two seasons with the G-League Ignite and averaged 14.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game in his first season, and 17.6 points, 6.4 assists, 5.1 rebounds in his second season. While he looked like the five-star prospect he was ranked as in the G-League, Henderson suffered quite a lot of injuries prior to the NBA.

Being an explosive athlete like Henderson, has its ups and downs. He had also injured his shoulders in a pre-season game, which has fans and pundits worrying about his durability. Leaving that aside, his hype coming into the NBA was so big, that Henderson already has a signature shoe with PUMA.

Scoot Henderson’s vertical

Scoot Henderson is a 6 feet 3 inch point guard and has a vertical jump of around 46 inches. Additionally, his wingspan measures 6 feet 9 inches, which surely helps him posterize other players while driving down the lane. Henderson has one of the strongest builds in the NBA which also helps him shrug off defenders and finish through contact.

Apart from his shooting and durability, Henderson has most of the offensive skills that a guard needs to flourish in the NBA.

Henderson has all the physical gifts that an NBA team would love, but he is still a raw talent and is far from being the finished product. While he is good at playmaking and driving to the basket, it requires more polishing. He needs to improve his decision-making on the court, and his shooting efficiency from the field.

The Portland Trail Blazers are a very young team and also have guys like Deandre Ayton and Malcolm Brogdon who Henderson can look up to for leadership. Still only 19, for Portland fans, patience will be the name of the game.
