To further bolster his prospects, Barnes joined the Montverde academy and played alongside future NBA stars Cade Cunningham and Day’Ron Sharpe. He graduated from Montverde as a consensus five-star recruit and on November 13, 2019, signed the letter of intent with the Florida State Seminoles.
