Simone Fontecchio is an Italian small forward playing for the Detroit Pistons as of November 2024. Before starting his career in the NBA, Fontecchio played for several EuroLeague teams. From 2012 to 2016, Fontecchio played for Virtus Bologna, where he won the Italian U17 and U19 championships. He was also named LBA All-Star in 2014. Eventually, in July 2016, Fontecchio signed with Olimpia Milano in the LegaBasket Serie A and the EuroLeague. He won several trophies, including the Italian Cup (2016) and three Italian Super Cups (2016–2018) with Milano, but faced limited playing time. Meanwhile, Fontecchio went undrafted in the 2017 NBA Draft. In 2019, he moved to Reggio Emilia in the Italian league. In 2020, Fontecchio joined Alba Berlin in Germany’s Basketball Bundesliga where he had a breakout season as he averaged 10.6 points per game. In 2021, he signed with Baskonia in Spain's Liga ACB where he averaged 11 points on 40.2% 3-point shooting in the EuroLeague, as per Basketball Reference. This led the Utah Jazz to sign Simone Fontecchio in July 2022 on a two-year contract. After signing, On December 7, 2022, Fontecchio had a memorable moment when he made a game-winning dunk against the Golden State Warriors. He then scored 24 points on December 14, 2023, against the Portland Trail Blazers. On February 8, 2024, Fontecchio was traded to the Detroit Pistons.
