Spain vs Serbia Preview and Prediction for 2024 Paris Olympics Women's Basketball | Aug 2, 2024

Serbia and Spain face off in a marquee Group A clash at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium on Saturday (Aug. 3). The two teams have qualified for the next round of the 2024 Paris Olympics, but are tired with Serbia taking the lead due to a points differential. Serbia are on a three-game winning streak and will hope to get the better of their rivals in their final pool matchup.

Both teams boast of a potent offense, and while Spain's narrow 63-62 win over China saw their firepower falter, they still have one of the best shooting in their group with their 43.7% shooting from the field. They have gone past 150+ points collectively in their last couple of games. As for Serbia, they have shot at a healthy 39.9% from the field. What's to be kept an eye on is the head-to-head record between the two teams. Serbia have gone down in eight of their last nine meetings between the two.

Spain vs Serbia Preview

Spain narrowly edged out Puerto Rico to make the quarters, while Serbia vaulted past China to book a date with the Spaniards. Group A saw some prize competition with both sides needing each other to win to bag a spot at Bercy Arena back in Paris before wrapping up their game against each other in the pool stage on Saturday.

Las Vegas Aces star Megan Gustafson was the architect of the win for La Roja with a game-high 18 points, while Leonor Rodriguez added 17 points to the tally. The former will be key again as they face a gritty Serbian side led by Yvonne Anderson, Tina Krajisnik, Masa Jankovic, and Jovana Nogic. All of these players were in double figures against China.

Spain vs Serbia Prediction

The Serbians may have made the quarterfinals, but they do get a taste of what the Spaniard's rally could look like on Saturday. The latter's offense may have sputtered against Puerto Rico, but they are fancied to win their pool game. Take Gustafson and co. for the win.
