Spencer Dinwiddie

Spencer Dinwiddie is a professional basketball player currently playing point guard and shooting guard for the Brooklyn Nets. Born in Los Angeles, Dinwiddie attended William Howard Taft High School and was recognized as one of the best players to have ever played for the school. In his junior season, Dinwiddie averaged 5.9 points and 4.1 assists. While he wasn’t looking like a standout player in his first three years, by the time his senior year rolled around, Dinwiddie made the most of his opportunity and averaged 11.2 points and 7.7 assists, becoming one of the most skilled passers in the school's history. Coming out of high school, Dinwiddie was a three-star recruit and committed to the Colorado Buffaloes.

Dinwiddie had a stellar college career and in just his first game with the Colorado Buffaloes, Dinwiddie showed the growth he had attained as a player, scoring 32 points in a win over Fort Lewis. By the end of his freshman season, Dinwiddie had helped his college to their first NCAA berth since 2002-03. He was named to the All-Pac12 Freshman team and the All-Pac12 First team. The sophomore season for Dinwiddie was a breakout season where he led the team in both points and assists. The Colorado Buffaloes made the NCAA tournament again, this time reaching the second round. It was the first time the team had reached back-to-back NCAA tournaments since the 1963 season. As his junior season rolled around, Dinwiddie continued to act as the leader of the Colorado Buffaloes, leading his team yet again in points and assists. Things started to look bad for Dinwiddie however, in the middle of his junior season, when he suffered a torn ACL forcing him to sit out most of his junior season. Despite this, Dinwiddie declared for the NBA draft after his junior season, foregoing the final year of his college eligibility. He was picked as the 38th overall pick by the Detroit Pistons in the 2014 NBA draft.

What did the Nets get for Spencer Dinwiddie?

Dinwiddie spent the first few years of his career in relative NBA obscurity with the Detroit Pistons before he got his first big break with the Brooklyn Nets. He mostly came off the bench behind D’Angelo Russell but made his name as the ‘money time’ player for the Nets. He would often find himself in crunch-time situations and always came up huge for the Nets. In the 2020-21 NBA season, Dinwiddie tore his ACL again, causing him to be sidelined for the rest of the season. In the 2021 off-season, the Nets were involved in a five-team mega deal between Los Angeles Lakers and the Washington Wizards, the San Antonio Spurs and the Indiana Pacers. The Wizards acquired Dinwiddie by a sign-and-trade and the Nets got a 2024 second round pick and a 2025 pick swap with the Wizards. Dinwiddie spent barely a season with the Wizards before being traded at the trade deadline to the Dallas Mavericks. Dinwiddie spent one season with the Mavericks before he was again traded at the trade deadline to the Brooklyn Nets. Dinwiddie currently plays for the Brooklyn Nets and is poised to become a free agent after his season.
