Steve Kerr dubs Steph Curry as ‘hometown hero’ talking about his fan base: “He seems to be a hero everywhere we go”

Steph Curry has had an outstanding NBA career so far and has a solid fan base in Oakland. Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr believes Curry is revered everywhere he goes.

Curry has played the entirety of his career with the Warriors, and he will likely retire with the organization. Nonetheless, his personality and style of play have earned him fans across the world.

Kerr spoke about Curry's return to his hometown of Charlotte. He highlighted how the residents come out en masse to see the All-Star guard play.

"It's very similar. Obviously, he's the hometown hero here but he seems to be a hero everywhere we go. I do remember a few years ago, one of our coaches was working him out before the game and he said you couldn't imagine how many people were coming up to say hello during his shooting workout.

"And Steph was telling him, 'That was my barber. That was my dentist. That was my teacher. ... He always has a ton of people coming to the game here."

Curry's return to Charlotte did not end in victory for the Warriors as they lost to the Hornets 120-113. The reigning NBA Finals MVP will not play in his hometown for the rest of the season as both teams meet only twice every season.

With their first meeting played in Charlotte, their final meeting of the season will be at Chase Center.

The Warriors were in Japan during the preseason. Basketball fans trooped into the arena to see Curry work.

In a short video released by The Athletic, the Arena was seen packed hours before tip-off to see Curry warm up.

SUGA, a member of the South Korean boy band BTS, has also been a fan of Curry and the Warriors. During the Warriors' time in Japan, SUGA met with the team and had a wholesome moment with Curry. The two have since become fast friends.

Steph Curry & Charlotte’s history

Curry was born and raised in Charlotte but has not gotten the opportunity to play for the Hornets. Perhaps they could have selected him in the 2009 draft if they had an earlier pick.

Nonetheless, it is always an experience whenever Curry returns to Charlotte for a basketball game. Curry was recently presented with a key to the city and he revealed it would be a dream to play for the Hornets.

Speaking after being enshrined in the Davidson Hall of Fame, he said:

"I've always said I wanted to finish my career out in Golden State because of how much it means to me. The experiences and teammates, and the journey we've been on. Everybody asks me, 'Wouldn't you want to play one year for the Hornets and come back and see what...'"

After the fans started to cheer in excitement, he said:

"Oh no, don't do that, don't do that. I am not breaking any news right now, I'm not making any promises. All I would say though is if there was a team that I did want to play for that was not named the Warriors, that would be it. That's all I can say about that."

The likelihood of Curry not retiring with the Warriors is slim. On the off chance that he does not finish his career with the Warriors, he might don the Hornets' colors.
