Steven Adams is a professional basketball player from New Zealand who plays center for the Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA. The Oklahoma City Thunder selected Adams with the 12th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, where he played for seven seasons.
After his tenure with the Thunder, Adams was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans in 2020. He spent just one season in New Orleans before being dealt to the Memphis Grizzlies in 2021. In 42 games during the 2022-23 season, Adams averaged 8.6 points, 11.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.1 blocks per game. He made history by becoming the only player in Grizzlies franchise history to record at least 15 rebounds, five assists, three steals and three blocks in multiple games.
Unfortunately for him, Adams' 2022/23 season was cut short by a PCL sprain in his right knee. The injury will force the big man to miss the entire 2023/24 season as well as he recovers from surgery.
Steven Adams Bench Press
Adams’ strength and power were on full display at the 2013 NBA Draft Combine when he put up an impressive 16 reps on the bench.
For perspective, the average result for centers at that year's combine was 11 reps. So Adams clearly stood out from the pack in terms of pure power packed into his 265-pound body. He uses his size to box out other bigs and finish with authority in the paint.
So while Steven Adams is clearly one of the NBA's strongest players already, don't be surprised if the "Big Kiwi" comes back even stronger after recovering from his knee injury. More power in his upper body could take his rugged game to new heights.
