Taking a look at recently deceased NCAA coach Louis Orr’s coaching record

The college basketball world was dealt a blow as Georgetown assistant coach Louis Orr passed away at the age of 64. Orr recently worked at Georgetown as an assistant coach alongside former New York Knicks teammate Patrick Ewing. Orr's family said in a statement:

"On 12/15/2022, Louis Orr was called home to be with the Lord as his battle with cancer has come to an end."

Orr had a rich history with the game of basketball. As a player, Orr thrived at the University of Syracuse. During his senior season, he averaged 16.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. He was drafted by the New York Knicks in the second round of the 1980 NBA draft.

After his playing career, Louis Orr took his basketball knowledge to the sidelines. His coaching career started in 1991, as he was an assistant for Xavier. He went on to become an assistant coach for Providence and Syracuse, before getting his first head coaching opportunity.

Syracuse basketball legend Louis Orr has passed away

Orr went on to become the head coach for three college programs during his coaching career. His first chance came in 2000, when he was named the head coach of Siena.

In just his first season, Siena had an impressive 20-11 record. After that, Orr was hired by Seton Hall to be their head coach. Over the span of the next five seasons, Orr led the Pirates to a combined record of 80-69.

His next step on the coaching trail was at Bowling Green University. It would be his lengthiest tenure as a head coach. Orr spent seven years at Bowling Green. Before leaving the program, Orr combined to lead the Falcons to a combined 101-121 record during that span.

Orr was an assistant coach at Georgetown with former New York Knicks teammate Patrick Ewing since 2017. He is survived by his wife Yvette, as well as their two children Monica and Chauncey.
