The two nations' routes to this stage have differed greatly. Steve Kerr’s troops stormed to the summit in Group C with six points from a possible six, while the 'Cariocas' finished third in Group C, behind France and Germany.

Steve Kerr showed his reluctance to start Kevin Durant, who has been their saviour. A proven big-game player, Durant has the ability to take a game by storm, and against a shaky Brazilian team, he could have a field day with increased playing time.

There's a rising concern about Jrue Holiday's availability, who's nursing ankle injury, but he's still expected to suit up on Tuesday. Otherwise, this should be a largely unchanged starting five to the one that won against Puerto Rico in their final group-stage game.

Aleksandar Petrovic has a fully fit roster at his disposal, but it remains to be seen whether the Brazil coach makes changes to the team that beat Japan 102-84 in their final group game.

Playing his third Olympics, Marcelo Huertas is one of the oldest players in the tournament. The 41-year-old has shown that even though he's approaching the end of his career, he's still one of the top players for his nation. Huertas tallied 13 points, eight assists, one rebound and one block against Japan.

It's not clear as of yet whether he will play more minutes, but Petrovic will keep faith with the settled line up involving Huertas along with Leonardo Meindl, Bruno Caboclo, Gui Santos and Georginho De Paula.

Team USA vs Brazil: Preview

LeBron James and Steph Curry led United States came to this tournament with just one goal – to win the gold.

Anything less for the Americans will be deemed a failure. Team USA has been presented with a wide variety of challenges, and despite some first-quarter hiccups, they have passed with flying colours.

The 16-time Olympics gold medals winners enjoy controlling the ball and feeding an inter-changing multiple role players, which has seen them play impressive basketball so far this tournament.

Their second-half displays against Serbia and Puerto Rico in the group stage evidences just how exhilarating the USABMNT has been. They are locked in to make sure of a fifth-straight Olympic gold this week.

Meanwhile things were not as straightforward for three-time bronze medal winners, Brazil. After suffering tough losses to France and Germany, Aleksandar Petrovic men required a big win against Japan to ensure passage to the knockouts for the 12th time. They dominated Japan in their final group game, securing an 18-point victory that sent them into the playoffs.

Although United States has been labelled as one of the favorites to win the gold, Brazil has defied the odds, especially when you cast your mind back to their qualification for the quadrennial tournament. They won three of four qualifying games, including a decisive 94-69 win over Latvia.

The winner of this game will set up a semifinal date with Serbia or Australia on Thursday.
