Thanasis Antetokounmpo is a small forward who plays for the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA. He is the older brother of two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, who also plays for the Bucks.
Both the Antetokounmpo brothers learnt the basics of basketball from their father and Thanasis later played for the youth club basketball team of Filathlitikos on a scholarship. He was an excellent guard during his young days, and could have possibly been more successful if not for his early injuries.
He played at the semi-professional level in Greece before being selected by Delaware 87ers, a team in the NBA D-League. Thanasis has also played in the Spanish league, Liga ACB, where he was able to make a name for himself.
After a successful season in Spain, Thanasis returned back to Greece and signed with Panathinaikos. He got many accolades and achievements in the two years he played for the team, including being named MVP of the Greek All-Star game in 2018.
Since 2019, he has been playing for the Milwaukee Bucks and recently signed a one year extension on a veteran minimum deal. He is set to earn just over $2.3 million in the 2023/24 NBA season.
Thanasis’ best performance for the Bucks came in April 2022, when he posted his career-high 27 points and 5 rebounds against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The forward has good size who knows how to use his physicality effectively. The only thing where he lacks is experience in the NBA. With more experience and minutes, he is a player who can help the Bucks make another championship run in the near future.
