Trae Young is an American professional basketball player currently running point for the Atlanta Hawks of the NBA. Born in Lubbock, Texas, Young is the son of Candice and Rayford Young who played basketball at Texas Tech and professionally in Europe. Young attended Norman High School in his hometown of Norman and played his high school career there. In his sophomore season, Young averaged 25 points, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds a game while leading his high school to the area championship and being named Oklahoma’s Sophomore of the Year. He upped his scoring in his junior year, averaging 34.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.6 assists while leading his team to a 28-4 record. In his senior year, Young went on a ridiculous scoring spree averaging 42.6 points while shooting 50% from three-point range.

Young was considered one of the best players in the nation and one of the highest-recruited high school players in the country from his class. Young committed to play for the Oklahoma Sooners. In his freshman year, he was easily one of the best players in the country and broke countless records including assists, points, points per game, assists per game, and field-goal percentage. He would also lead the Sooners to the NCAA tournament where they would eventually lose in the second round. Following the tournament, Young declared for the NBA draft, foregoing his final three years of college eligibility.

Trae Young was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks with the 5th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft and was traded to the Atlanta Hawks the very same night, in exchange for the 3rd overall pick of the year, Luka Doncic. Young has been the franchise player for the Hawks ever since and has been leading the team in both points and assists. His greatest season came in the 2020-21 season where he led the Hawks to the Eastern Conference Finals but eventually, were upsetted by the Milwaukee Bucks. Young currently plays for the Atlanta Hawks.

This titled the heads of many basketball enthusiasts and NBA fans as one of the best point guards in the league being on the market was a huge thing. But eventually, the trade talks died down and Young began the 2023-24 season with the Atlanta Hawks.
