Tristan Trevor James Thompson is an active professional basketball player who currently plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Thompson had a peculiar skill in his arsenal and it was to rebound the ball, particularly on the offensive boards where he dominated. He is a good finisher around the rim and a great rebounder without being a complete liability at the free-throw line where most centers struggle the most.

This is hard to believe but he was arguably the second-best player from the 2015 Cavs roster in the NBA Finals. After K.Love and Irving were out due to injuries, Thompson stepped up and averaged 9.6 points, 10.8 boards, and 1.2 blocks in the 2015 playoffs. He also shot the ball at a 55.8 per cent clip.

While Thompson was never an elite rim protector, he can defend the post. He is not a great perimeter defender but can guard small players due to his quickness. His pick-and-roll defense is not bad either. He has always known what he is good at and he utilizes his skills to the maximum. He plays to his strengths and does a great job when his number is called to perform.

Throughout Thompson’s career, he has averaged 9.0 points, 0.7 blocks, and 8.3 rebounds on 51.9 percent from the field. At this point in his career, Thompson has already reached his ceiling as a basketball player but can be a great option coming off the bench. He plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers and is only playing for 10.8 minutes a game but has been a great vet for the younger players in the team like Evan Mobley and Jared Allen.

Tristan Thompson Height

Thompson is 6 feet 9 inches tall (2.06 m). This is considered slightly shorter than the average NBA center but make no mistake, he was almost Dennis-Rodman-like when it came to grabbing rebounds on both sides of the floor but his offensive rebounding stood out. He was an expert when it came to keeping possessions alive with his grit and tenacity on the boards.

Tristan Thompson Wingspan

Thompson is 6 feet 9 inches when it comes to his height but has a 7 '1 wingspan. His seven feet wingspan helps him grab boards, block shots, score over smaller centers in the paint, and play perimeter defense. He is one of the best when it comes to playing at his strengths.

Tristan Thompson’s Team

Thompson currently plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers where he has spent the majority of his time in the NBA. However, he has also played for other teams and they are;

  • Cleveland Cavaliers from 2011 to 2020

  • Boston Celtics from 2020 to 2021

  • Sacramento Kings, Indiana Pacers, and Chicago Bulls from 2021 to 2022

  • Los Angeles Lakers 2022 to 2023 (joined the roster during the playoffs).

  • Cleveland Cavaliers for the 2023-2024 season

Thompson’s lack of offensive abilities is what may have caused him a roster spot in the 2022-23 regular season. He has not evolved his game much and in the modern NBA, if a big man cannot shoot, he is considered a liability on the offensive end.
