Veteran Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro has had an exceptional campaign so far and has made a strong case for making his first-ever All-Star Game. Also, with the way he has been continuously elevating his game in year and year out, the 305 could well have found its star for the next decade.

Six years since being selected 13th overall by the Heat in the 2019 NBA Draft out of Kentucky, the 6-foot-5 Wisconsin native is having a career season. In the 43 games he played and started in, he has posted career-highs of 24 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.2 assists, 47.6% shooting clip and 40.5% from three.

His 24-5-5 stat line has thrust him to an elite company this season, which include only Giannis Antetokounmpo, Nikola Jokic, Jayson Tatum and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Herro's 40% three-point clip and four triples made per game, meanwhile, has made him on target to join Klay Thompson, Damian Lillard and Steph Curry as the only players to achieve such feat.

Tyler Herro's steady impressive play has been among the bright spots for what has been a challenging campaign for Miami (22-22), compounded by the ongoing drama involving All-Star forward Jimmy Butler, who has expressed his desire to be out of the team.

Herro's solid play this season has been a result of the team believing in his abilities and willingness to work with him, something that bodes well for a good working relationship between the parties moving forward.

"He's smart and he could understand, intellectually, that a more efficient profile would help and also help him. It should be a win-win. It shouldn't just be, 'Hey, we're benefitting and you're not.' You want players to also feel that they can fully express themselves and their ambition," said Heat coach Erik Spoelstra in one of his conversations with Herro back in 2023 as reported on NBA.com.

Of course, it remains to be seen if Herro does wind up as the Heat's resident star, but six years in, the signs are there and just need to be built on.

Erik Spoelstra backs Tyler Herro as an All-Star

Tyler Herro is playing great basketball this season that it has moved Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra to endorse him as an All-Star. It is something that the three-time NBA champion coach is not used to doing but was compelled to do so with the way his player has performed up to this point.

Spoelstra shared this to reporters, saying (via Clutch Points):

"That's just not my style, but I do think Tyler should be an All-Star. His play speaks for itself. It's been that way. I'm hopeful the coaches vote him in. That's the ultimate respect."

Tyler Herro finished ninth in the All-Star voting for Eastern Conference guards, garnering 370,152 fan votes and finishing with a weighted score of 9.50. The All-Star reserves will be announced on Thursday.
