Fans of the New York Knicks turned on team owner James Dolan after Carmelo Anthony revealed that it was the top honchos who crafted the deal that sent him to the Big Apple from the Denver Nuggets back in 2011. It was a move that many felt did not work well for the Knicks as they had to blow up their core rotation.

In a conversation with now-retired NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski on the 7PM in Brooklyn podcast on Thursday, 'Melo' shared the details that led to his move from the MIle High City to the Big Apple. He said that he was consulted about what was to go down but ultimately the finer details were discussed by the managements of the two teams.

Knicks fans made their thoughts known on what Carmelo Anthony revealed with most coming to the realization that the 10-time NBA All-Star was not to blame for the team breaking up its core in 2011 but its $2-billion worth owner Dolan. They took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their opinons and below are what some of them wrote.

"So it was ultimately Dolan's fault again he blew up the team up to get melo and for years people have blamed him for 'forcing' their hands lmao. Internet narratives have been getting killed on these NBA player podcasts," a user asserted.

"Well well would you look at that," another put out.
"He literally could've just signed with the Knicks in free agency that following offseason," a user looked back in wonder.
"Melo, New Jersey, Dolan and a stack of blank papers is how the blockbuster trade went down," another moved to sum up.

Just as there were fans who pinned the blame on Dolan, others highlighted the need for Carmelo Anthony to be "exonerated" from what they believed was undue criticism.

"I hope this finally shuts up those that think Melo was the reason the team was gutted. It's been told by everyone and now Woj. It was Dolan the whole time," one user said.
"Man melo took arrows from knicks fans for over a decade over 'forcing' the trade only for woj to come out now and say he was the one in the meeting pushing against trading so many assets," another shared.
"Mannn 'Knicks fans' been killing Melo for this trade since it happened," a fan highlighted.

Following the trade, Carmelo Anthony spent seven years with the Knicks, becoming a six-time All-Star and averaging 24.7 points, seven rebounds, 3.2 assists and a steal. The team, however, only reached the postseason three times during his stay there.

Carmelo Anthony's Nuggets-to-Knicks trade details

The New York Knicks went after Carmelo Anthony to make him team him up with then resident All-Star Amar'e Stoudemire. It, however, came with a huge cost.

In the trade, the Knicks acquired Anthony along with an older Chauncey Billups, Shelden WIlliams, Anthony Carter and Renaldo Balkman. In return, the team gave up key rotation players Wilson Chandler, Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari, Timofey Mozgov and three future draft picks. A $3 million in cash was also part of the deal.

Anthony played 27 games in 2011 with the Knicks, finishing with averages of 26.3 points, 6.7 rebounds and three assists to help New York reach the playoffs as the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference.
