Usman Garuba is a professional basketball player in the NBA. He belongs to Spain and his full name is Destiny Usman Garuba Alari. Garuba is a big man in the league, playing for the Oklahoma City Thunder. He is just a rookie who played in the Spanish league for Real Madrid, before shifting to the NBA.

Born in Madrid, Garuba played football when he was growing up. He was more passionate about football but because of his exceptional height, Garuba had to make a switch to playing basketball. Garuba looked up to legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar when he was a kid. He joined a basketball school in Azuqueca, where he trained and understood the sport.

After training for two years, he started playing for Real Madrid in the lower categories. Garuba led Madrid to many title victories and got various accolades along the process. His rebound game was phenomenal from the start and he was able to gather up a lot of experience even before turning 18. Garuba was the youngest star in the team's history.

When he was just 15, Garuba got picked for the Real Madrid reserve team. He was playing professionally in the fourth-tier league of Spain before making his debut for Real Madrid the coming year. At the age of barely reaching 17, he was playing in the first-tier league in Spain. Garuba was a recruit who ticked all the boxes for playing in the NBA.

Usman Garuba Age

Destiny Usman Garuba Alari is 21 years old as of 2023.

Born in the year 2002, Garuba was picked by the Houston Rockets in 2021. He was signed to a two-year deal with the Rockets, but was unable to make his presence as the Spanish center underperformed. Garuba did not get much playtime due to an injury to his wrist and had to sit out for the rest of the season.

For a rookie prospect with early experience and a physique to dominate the court, Garuba was unable to live up to the hype.

Garuba was traded to the Atlanta Hawks before getting moved once again. Now, he is signed to the Oklahoma City Thunder for a three-year deal worth $2,588,400. Garuba is making 4.74 percent more than last year and is the fifteenth best-paid player of the Thunders. There is still time for the youngster to turn his career around. Garuba is hopefully going to show his capabilities this year playing for the Oklahoma City Thunders.
