Utah Jazz vs San Antonio Spurs preview

The rebuilding Jazz are off to a tough start as expected. Their only win this season was a 135-126 victory against the Chicago Bulls on Monday. They last played the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday and suffered a 123-100 loss. Jordan Clarkson had 18 points in the loss.

Some of Utah’s struggles are also related to Lauri Markkanen’s poor start to the season. He is averaging just 16.0 points per game on a career low 37.1% shooting. He also missed three straight games with a back injury before returning to the lineup against the Bucks.

The Spurs are coming off a 118-105 win against the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday. It was a team effort as no player scored over 17 points. A total of eight players scored in double figures, including four off of the bench. Wembanyama had 12 points and eight rebounds.

The second-year big man has faced criticism for his offensive play so far this season. While he was expected to take a big leap, he is averaging just 17.7 points on 41.3% shooting in nine games. He has been superb defensively, though, averaging a league-leading 3.7 blocks, while adding 1.6 steals per game.

Lauri Markkanen’s point total is set at 19.5. This will just be his second game back from the back injury and could struggle against San Antonio’s stellar defense. Bet on the under here.

Victor Wembanyama’s blocks total for the game is set at 3.5. With a season average of 3.7, take the over here.

Utah Jazz vs San Antonio Spurs prediction

The oddsmakers favor the Spurs to get a win at home on Saturday. While San Antonio hasn’t gotten its season to a good start, its opponents have struggled even more. Expect Wemby and Co. to cover the spread for a win. Just like their first game this season, this could be another low-scoring matchup with the team total staying under 222.5 points.
