Venezuela has also produced talented players who have made their presence felt in the NBA.

Venezuelan NBA Players

Greivis Vásquez:

When Venezuelan stars in the NBA are discussed, one prominent name is Greivis Vásquez. He spent 7 seasons in the league. Vásquez played in the States from his college days representing the University of Maryland and was selected as the 28th overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft by the Memphis Grizzlies.

The 6'6" point guard was instrumental in playmaking, allowing his team to score big. With an average of 9 points and 5 assists per game, Vásquez played in 400+ games in the NBA. His passing skills and court vision made him an asset to his teams. He played for several teams, including the New Orleans Hornets, Sacramento Kings, and Toronto Raptors. But recurring injuries forced Vásquez to retire from the NBA in 2017, completing a remarkable 7 years stint in the NBA.

It really is a great achievement for any foreign player to win a championship. Carl Herrera is one such player who won not one but back-to-back titles in NBA. Although he played as a supporting cast for the Rockets in the 94 and 95 championship run Herrera was instrumental in the regular season. He made history by becoming the first Venezuelan player to win an NBA Championship as a member of the Houston Rockets during the 1993-1994 season.

Born on December 14, 1966, Herrera was a power forward known for his defensive prowess and tenacity on the court. Herrera played for several NBA teams during his career, including the Rockets, San Antonio Spurs, and Vancouver Grizzlies, before retiring from the league. In his 8-years career, Herrera averaged 5 rebounds and 6 points in a total of 465 games.

Oscar Torres:

In 2001-2002, Venezuelan Torres made his NBA debut with Houston Rockets and finished his short NBA career with the Golden State Warriors the very next season. The versatile player played for 81 games and averaged around 6 points and 2 rebounds per game.

Similar to Oscar Torres, Smith Played for 2 seasons in the league and then remained unsigned after entering free agency. While looking at the Venezuelan players' selections in the league, Smith was the highest draft pick - the 35th overall pick in the 2004 NBA draft by the Atlanta Hawks.

Considering the small number of Venezuelan players in the NBA, we would say that they have made a massive mark on their franchises. Though some players have played for lesser seasons than an average NBA Star they have certainly shown their ability to shine on the big stage. Then also there was also longevity shown by Players like Greivis Vásquez and Carl Herrera, who claimed the top awards with the Rockets.
