Victor Wembanyama Injury History
Victor Wembanyama

French phenomenon, Victor Wembanyama, previously played for the Metropolitan 92 of the LNB Pro A. He is widely considered to be the best prospect coming into the NBA and is often compared to players like Kevin Durant and Dirk Nowitzki of the NBA. Standing at 7 Feet 4 inches, he can shoot the ball, dribble, create space, post-up, and defend, all at a very high level.

He was named the best young player in LNB Pro A and was the All-Star game MVP. The San Antonio Spurs selected him with the 1st overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.

Wembanyama Injury History

Even though Victor is considered to be the best prospect to come into the NBA and a generational talent, injuries are something that has always troubled him. Today we look into some of his injuries that happened in the past:

Stress fracture in fibula (December 2020)

Wembanyama suffered a stress fracture in his fibula. There are two bones down on a human’s leg. One is called Tibia and the other is called fibula. The fibula is a relatively weaker bone compared to the Tibia. Being a 7 Feet 4 inch giant is not easy and Victor paid the price ultimately.

Fractured finger (November 2021)

Victor Wembanyama suffered another injury and this time it was a fractured finger. It made him inactive for approximately a month, spanning from November 6 to December 2.

Bone contusion in shoulder (December 2021)

Wemby was nearly out for two whole months after suffering a shoulder contusion in a game.

Psoas injury (June 2022)

The stage was all set for Victor to play in the finals with his team ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne and that is when Victor was listed out of the game with a psoas injury. The psoas is the muscle that helps you pull your knees up to your chest. If the psoas is not fully functioning, a person cannot run nor can he jump properly.

Being long, tall, and skinny has a lot of benefits especially playing basketball but it also comes with a price. A lot of other NBA stars like Derrick Rose, Tracy McGrady, Yao Ming, Monta Ellis, and former number-one overall pick Greg Oden, all suffered from career-ending injuries. Victor is still young and only 19 years of age. If there’s anything that can stop the Frenchman from being an all-time great in the NBA, it’s his injuries. In a relatively short career until now, Wembanyama has been injury-free for the San Antonio Spurs, as of December 2023.
