The Metropolitans 92 standout was the number-one pick in the 2023 NBA Draft and is the most hyped player since LeBron James in 2003. The San Antonio Spurs won the draft lottery and picked Wemby.

Wembanyama is a French center who stands 7 feet 4 inches tall, and currently is the tallest player in the league. Before coming to the NBA, Wembanyama played in the LNB Pro A League, a top tier league in France, and represented the Metropolitans 92.

In the 2022/23 season, he led the league in defensive stats, in rebounds and blocks, and became the youngest player to lift the Pro A Best Defender award.

Wembanyama has also donned the French National Jersey multiple times representing at the FIBA and European competitions. In the FIBA-U19 World Cup, he set the FIBA record for the number of blocks and helped the team to snag the silver medal.

Wembanyama is wholly a threat to the defenders, he can contribute along both ends. On the offensive side, defending a 7-footer who can shoot becomes very difficult for opponents. On his NBA debut with the Spurs, he had 15.0 points, 5.0 rebounds on 67% shooting against the Dallas Mavericks.

The San Antonio Spurs and Wembanyama agreed to a four year $55.2 million deal that will last for the next four seasons. This is his rookie contract that involves the first two years guaranteed and the last two years come with a player option.
