Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs arrived at Madison Square Garden to face the New York Knicks for the first game of the 2025 NBA Christmas Day slate. The Frenchman is having a solid second season with the Texas franchise, leading the team in points (24.8) and rebounds (9.9) per game, while shooting 47.7% from the field, 35.6% from deep and 87.7% from the free-throw line.
Wemby started this game on a strong note, scoring four points in the first three minutes, missing two of his first three field goal attempts. The second-year big went quiet scoring-wise until the final minutes of the first period but grabbed four rebounds, dished two assists and blocked two shots. He still scored in double digits to lead the Spurs.
Victor Wembanyama took over for the Spurs in the second quarter, adding 14 points to the scoreboard, as well as seven rebounds and two assists. The game turned into a duel of former No. 1 overall picks between Wembanyama and Karl-Anthony Towns in the paint, but also a personal matchup with Mikal Bridges on the scoreboard.
Victor Wembanyama continued his good performance in the third quarter, adding 11 points to his register, which wasn't enough to hold back the Knicks' attempts to win this matchup and enter the final period with the advantage. Wembanyama started the fourth quarter with another outburst, adding 11 points in the first five minutes to stay hot and try to lead the Spurs to the win.
