Dillon Brooks is one of those players that you absolutely hate playing against but would love to have him as your teammate. He is one of the best trash talkers in the league and he gives off a Patrick Beverley vibe. Brooks is a tough physical defender who likes to get in a player’s face and play mind games with the player. He doesn't care if he is going against the greatest or just a regular player. He likes to let the world know that he is ready for any competition that comes his way.
Brooks was drafted by the Memphis Grizzlies in the second round of the 2017 NBA draft. He was one of the most essential pieces to the Grizzlies’ roster and helped the team take tremendous steps toward becoming a title contender. He can knock down three-pointers, drive to the hole, playmake, and play rigid defense. Unfortunately for him, the Grizzlies removed him from the roster this off-season. As per Shams Charania of the Athletic, the Memphis Grizzlies even said that Brooks “will not be brought back under any circumstances,” after last season’s playoff run.
Dillon Brooks got traded to the Houston Rockets and the Grizzlies were supposed to be a title contender again. To everyone’s knowledge, they are not. The Grizzlies are 1-6 and it looks like they significantly miss Brooks’ presence. So far, it looks like he won the trade and the Grizzlies lost a key piece from their roster. As of the 2023-24 season, he is averaging 13.7 points and is shooting at 55.1 percent from the field and 53.3 percent from beyond the arc.
Dillon Brooks Lebron James Skirmish
Last season in the 2022-2023 NBA playoffs, the Grizzlies were facing the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the postseason. Memphis was the second seed in the West and the Lakers barely got past the Play-In tournament. Brooks started trash-talking Lebron and got in his head in Game 2. After the game, Brooks was asked by a reporter if it was a bad idea to get in a scuffle with Lebron to which he replied “I don’t care, he is old” and continued by saying “I poke bears… I don’t respect no one until they come and give me 40 (points).”
Right before the tip-off in Game 3 of the NBA playoffs, Lebron had a little something to say to Brooks. While the conversation is not entirely clear, multiple sources reported that James said “ Just to let you know, you cause too many problems. Your crazy a** is doing nothing but fooling around… You know nothing, you ain’t ready for me. Make some shots, do your job.” Well, Brooks was never the same after that exchange with James and the Grizzlies ended up losing to the L.A Lakers in 6 games.
There are some guys in the NBA that you do not talk trash to and Lebron is one of them.
Even after all the humiliation that Brooks had to go through, he recently told a reporter that he is “Ready to lock him (Lebron) up.” The Rockets are facing the Lakers for the first time this season and Brooks is having his most efficient year with the Houston Rockets.
