Golden State Warriors reserve guard Donte DiVincenzo was signed this past summer to replace some of the depth the Warriors lost in free agency. DiVincenzo initially got off to a slow start with Golden State but has since stepped up in the absence of superstar point guard Steph Curry.

Over his last seven games with Curry sidelined, DiVincenzo is averaging 11.0 points, 6.4 rebounds, 4.7 assists, 1.9 steals and 2.7 3-pointers per game. He also has a 41.5/41.3/100.0 split during that stretch. Overall, DiVincenzo has provided very good value as a playmaker, shooter and defender for the Warriors on a relatively small contract.

Donte DiVincenzo is 25 years old and in the first of his two-year, $9.2 million contract with the Warriors. He is making $4.5 million this season with a player option for $4.7 million next season.

Given his recent play, it looks like there’s a decent chance that DiVincenzo could decline his option to receive a pay raise next summer. This means there is a possibility that the Warriors could lose him after just one season.

Donte DiVincenzo’s impact on the Warriors so far has gone beyond the box score as well. The Athletic’s Anthony Slater recently outlined just how important DiVincenzo’s stabilizing veteran presence has been to Golden State’s recent turnaround:

“This continues an extended emergence in recent weeks by DiVincenzo, who has been elevated into the starting lineup with Curry and Andrew Wiggins out to help stabilize the Warriors in this tenuous moment and also cement his place as a must-play cog in the nightly rotation, even once everyone is back healthy."

Slater then explained how DiVincenzo has improved his shooting since his time with the Milwaukee Bucks:

“The shooting has been a factor. DiVincenzo is above 38.0 percent from three this season, a tick above the clip he shot during that breakout third season with the (Milwaukee) Bucks, where he was a starting guard on the league’s best five-man lineup."

Slater then explained how DiVincenzo has been crucial to the Warriors' attempt to reestablish their defensive identity that helped them win their 2022 NBA championship:

"But it’s the defense, more than anything. (Steve) Kerr has spent the past five months searching for reliable options to rebuild what was a stingy defensive unit a season ago. DiVincenzo has stepped up as a perimeter hawk."

Through 28 games in Golden State, DiVincenzo is averaging 7.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.6 3-pointers per game on 39.2% shooting. The Warriors are 18-10 in those games he has played in, including their current five-game winning streak. In contrast, the Warriors are just 2-8 without DiVincenzo this season.
