Giannis Antetokounmpo was born and raised in Athens, Greece. He has four other brothers, three of whom are professional basketball players like him. Their parents are originally from Lagos, Nigeria, but had to move to Greece to find a better way of life.
Antetokounmpo grew up in poverty and had to sell bags and sunglasses on the streets of Athens to make ends meet. The two-time MVP told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski on "The Woj Pod" that there were times he'd be eating once a day during tough times.
"Sometimes I would go to school, no breakfast," Antetokounmpo said. "Sometimes, not every time. I would come back, sometimes no food. Now I have to go to practice. I would come back from practice at 11 PM and that is when I would have my first meal of the day."
