Dwight Wilson is a basketball star who has made his mark on the Ohio Bobcats team. However, before he arrived at Ohio University, he had to go through high school and develop his skills as a player, specifically during his time at Lincoln High School in Gahanna, Ohio.
Dwight at Lincoln High School
Lincoln High School is known for its strong athletic programs and has produced many talented athletes over the years. Dwight Wilson was no exception to this trend; he quickly established himself as one of the top players in the school's basketball program.
Dwight Wilson played basketball at Lincoln High School from 2014 through 2017. While playing for Lincoln High, his scoring average jumped up to almost sixteen points per game with sixteen rebounds each outing - stats good enough that earned him Second Team All-State honors.
In his junior year, he led Lincoln High to three district championships and the semi-finals and was named the Big Bend defensive player of the year.
As a senior, he led his team to the Class 8A state championship and was named the Big Bend player of the year. That year Dwight averaged eighteen points and eleven rebounds.
Dwight at James Maddison University
Dwight Wilson III majored in Sport and Recreation Management at James Madison University. He played for three seasons at James Madison before transferring to Ohio University.
Wilson's decision to focus on the recreation aspect of sports shows his passion for making a difference in the world beyond basketball.
In his last season at James Madison (2019-20), he played in 26 games while starting 22 of them. He averaged 9.8 points and 9.3 rebounds per game while shooting 53.4 percent from the field.
Wilson takes his academics seriously, as he received the CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll during all four years of his college career. This honor recognizes student-athletes who maintain a minimum 3.2 GPA while also competing in their sport.
Dwight at Ohio University
Dwight continued to pursue Sports and Recreation Management after his transfer to Ohio University.
At OU, he has had an impressive performance. In the 2022-23 season, he played and started in 32 games, averaging a team-high 15.4 points and 9.2 rebounds a game. He shot .618 from the field and .711 from the line.
He also scored 1.3 assists and had 12 steals. He scored a career-high 31 points on Jan. 24 against Western Michigan and grabbed his 1,000 career rebound on January 24 against WMU, making him the fourth Bobcat in program history with 1,000 rebounds and 1,000 points¹.
Dwight Wilson’s choice to study Sports and recreation Management aligns perfectly with his interests and passion for athletics. Not only does he excel on the court but he understands the importance of understanding how organizations operate behind the scenes to make successful sporting events happen.
