On Cup Nights, the only NBA games scheduled are the Group Play matchups. The results of the four intraconference games determine whether a team advances to the Knockout Rounds.
In the NBA Cup, eight teams advance to the Knockout Rounds. This includes the top-performing team from each of the six groups during Group Play and two "wild card" teams-one from each conference, that achieved the best record in Group Play among teams. The wild card teams are the ones with the best runners-up record in their group The Knockout Rounds, consisting of the Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and Championship, follow a single-elimination format. Teams compete for a prize pool and the prestigious NBA Cup trophy. Group Play and Knockouts Rounds stages games count towards the following season's regular-season standings, with the exception of the Championship game. Each team still plays a full 82 games in the regular season, including matches incorporated from the tournament.
