Zach Edey is currently one of Canada’s brightest young talents in basketball. At 7 feet 4 inches tall, Edey has a commanding presence on the court, as he has emerged as a coveted NBA prospect. Due to his size and skills, Edey is sought after by NBA teams in need of formidable big men. From 2020 to 2024, Zach Edey attended Purdue University and played basketball for the Boilermakers. Following a standout junior season, Edey declared for the NBA Draft in 2023. However, just hours before the deadline on May 31, 2023, he surprised many by announcing his decision to withdraw from the draft as he opted instead to return for a fourth season of college basketball.

During his senior year, Edey dominated the college basketball scene and led the Boilermakers all the way to the championship game in the 2024 March Madness tournament. Over four years in college, Edey has evolved into a smarter, stronger, and more agile player, and this made him a lottery pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, as the Memphis Grizzlies selected Zach Edey with the 9th overall pick. Now in his rookie season with the Grizzlies, Edey hopes to make an instant impact.

Zach Edey at Leaside High School

Zach Edey is a young and talented basketball player who has made headlines for his impressive performances for Purdue University. His journey into becoming one of the top prospects in Canadian basketball started with his education at Leaside High School, where he discovered a love for the game. Leaside High School is known for producing some of Canada's best athletes, including Olympic gold medalist Rosie MacLennan and former NHL star Brendan Shanahan. Zach Edey was no exception to this trend as he quickly picked up on the game and started to hone his skills.

Edey's interest in basketball began when he started getting advice from coaches and his mother. Zach tested his abilities with a few other sports including Baseball but his stature was too big to play the game long-term. His mother is a former basketball player which influenced him to adopt basketball. He joined his local community league and quickly showed promise as a player.

Edey's talent did not go unnoticed by college scouts across North America, leading him to commit to Purdue University in Indiana. Despite facing challenges adjusting to life away from home and navigating college-level competition, Edey has shown incredible resilience both on and off the court.
