The desert swan song for Amar’e Stoudemire was Game 6 of the western conference finals. That ended not good for him. And immediately, the free agency pundits are discussing his next move. The strong-as-a-rock power forward has been in the news for mixed reasons. First he dazzles to steal a game from the Lakers with 42 points, then he manages a paltry 5 rebounds and ends up on the losing side. Call it bad luck, but Amar’e has seen better days since he was drafted back in 2003 and was voted Rookie of the year.
He will be joining an entire league of elite superstars ,more of his batchmates who were drafted alongside him in 2003, like D-Wade ,Lebron and Bosh. And likewise, his decision to retain the Suns or leave it will be an impacting factor in the league. Stoudemire, who can opt out of the final year ($17.6 million) of his contract, has repeatedly said during the playoff run that there’s a “50-50 chance” he’ll be back in Phoenix next season.
And more than that, his team wants him back. After the season ended for them last week, his team-mates were repeatedly found commenting that they hope he is back to lift the Suns to another playoff finals season. No wonder that the team chemistry that has worked for them on-court has gone off-the-court as well, owing to this stupendous playoffs.
