Wallace attended Richardson High School in the city of Richardson, Texas. He was named Texas Gatorade Basketball Player of the Year and Dallas Morning News Boys Basketball Player of the Year for his senior season, in which he averaged 19.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 6.1 assists. He was selected for the McDonald's All-American Game and the Jordan Brand Classic in 2022. Wallace, a five-star recruit, had committed to play basketball for the University of Kentucky.

Wallace is a McDonald's All-American and a First Team All-State selection as a junior.
Wallace maintained a B-plus grade point average in high school. Kevin Lawson, Wallace's old coach, believes Wallace's high school scoring figures could have been much higher if he hadn't sat for most of the fourth quarter in a blowout victory. "When we played some of our biggest games of the year, knocking off some pretty big opponents with the caliber of players he'll be playing (at Kentucky), he stepped up and took over," Lawson said.
