Donovan Mitchell is a 26-year-old guard who currently plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Since entering the league, the former No. 13 pick has been a three-time All-Star and is well on his way to a fourth selection.

Before joining the ranks of NBA stars, Donovan Mitchell was raised in Elmsford, New York. He was born on September 7, 1996 to parents Donovan Sr. and Nicole Mitchell.

After tearing up the New York scene in his youth, Mitchell made the decision to play college basketball at Louisville. Unlike most NBA prospects today, he decided to stay for multiple years.

Staying in college paid big dividends for Donovan Mitchell. He made a name for himself in his sophomore year, posting averages of 15.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.1 steals while shooting 46% from beyond the arc.

Following his second college season, Mitchell decided he was ready for the pros. He entered his name in the 2013 NBA Draft and was selected 13th overall by the Denver Nuggets. Mitchell never played a game for Denver, though, as he was soon traded to the Utah Jazz for Trey Lyles and a first-round pick.

Mitchell spent the first five years of his career with the Jazz before being traded to Cleveland this past offseason in a blockbuster deal.

Donovan Mitchell makes history with new team

The Cleveland Cavaliers gave up a slew of assets to acquire Donovan Mitchell, and their gamble is paying off in a big way. Since arriving, the All-Star guard has managed to take his game to new heights.

Through his first 34 games with the Cavs, Donovan Mitchell is averaging a career-high 29.3 points to go along with 3.9 rebounds and 4.8 assists. He is also having his best three-point shooting season (41.3%) on near career-high volume (9.3 attempts per game).

Mitchell hit an all-time high with his new team recently as he etched his name into the history books. In an overtime win against the Chicago Bulls, he scored an incredible 71 points. What's even more impressive is that he dished out 11 assists as well.

With the addition of Donovan Mitchell, the Cavaliers have become a force to be reckoned with in the Eastern Conference. They are 7-3 over their last ten games and sit at 24-14 on the year. Only the Milwaukee Bucks, Brooklyn Nets, and Boston Celtics sit ahead of them in the standings.

Mitchells journey through Louisville to the NBA

Donovan Mitchell was selected 13th overall in the 2017 NBA Draft. Despite being a lottery pick, he had quite a humble college career. Back in 2015, nobody expected the young Louisville commit to blossom into the Superstar he is today.

In his first year at Louisville, Donovan Mitchell started only 5 out of the 31 played and averaged only 19 minutes a game. He would average 7.4 points, 1.7 assists, and 3.4 rebounds on 44.2% shooting that year.

In the 2016-17 college season, Donovan averaged 15.6 points, 2.7 assists, and 4.9 rebounds on 40.8% shooting in the 33 out of 34 games he started. He led the ACC in steals by averaging 2.1 per game and earned a spot on the 2016-17 ACC All-Defence Team and the All-ACC First Team.

Here are a few of his highlights from Louisville:

Ever since entering the NBA, Donovan Mitchell has continued to make strides as a player and is currently one of the best guards in the league.
