Springer played basketball for Lighthouse Christian School in Antioch, Tennessee, when he was in eighth grade. As a high schooler, Springer averaged 21.8 points, 9.4 rebounds, and five assists per game in his freshman year. After finishing his freshman and sophomore years, Springer transferred to IMG Academy in Florida. As a junior there Springer averaged a team-high 15.6 rebounds, four rebounds, and four assists as he helped his team win GEICO High School Nationals. After his great senior year, where the point guard averaged 17.4 points and 5.1 assists per game and was consequently selected to play in McDonald's All-American game.

After finishing high school, Springer attended Tennessee Technological University and played for their men's basketball team. and only played freshman season there. As a freshman, Springer averaged 12.5 points and 3.5 rebounds. After just one season in college, he declared for the 2021 NBA draft. Springer was selected as the 28th pick in the first round of the NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers, where he played three seasons, sharing time between their G league affiliate and the NBA. Subsequently, he was traded to the Boston Celtics in February 2024, where he won the NBA Championship. Ultimately, in February 2025, he was traded to the Houston Rockets, who waived the player, who later signed with the Utah Jazz.
