LA Lakers and Golden State Warriors Summer League opener recaps
The Lakers faced the Kings in their Summer League opener at the Chase Center. LeBron James' son Bronny James, drafted 55th, and Dalton Knecht, LA's 17th pick, started the game alongside Maxwell Lewis, Colin Castleton and Sean East II.
The LA Lakers fell behind early and trailed by 16 at one point in the first half before bouncing back to keep it close. However, they couldn't keep it that way for long. Blake Hinson and Tommy Kuhse were the impact players, as the former produced 17 points on five 3s, while the latter had 15 points and eight assists on 6 of 10 shots.
Knecht and Bronny disappointed, as the former shot 3 of 12, and the latter tallied four points on 2 of 9 shooting, including 0 for 3 from deep. Maxwell Lewis and Colin Castleton put up decent showings with 11 and 14 points, respectively. LA shot a measly 43.2% and 52.0% from the free throw line in the 108-94 loss.
Meanwhile, the Golden State Warriors were clinical in their Summer League opener. They took a 16-point lead by halftime and never looked back. Ethan Thompson dropped 27 points and seven rebounds off the bench, shooting 10 of 15, while Dauqwon Plowden had 26 points. He went 6 of 9 from 3-point range.
Golden State never allowed Miami to settle, registering a massive 106-65 win. The Warriors will be the favorites entering Sunday's back-to-back against the Lakers after their contrasting performances.
