The 19th tournament of the FIBA World Cup for Men's National Basketball Teams will take place in 2023. The tournament will run from August 25 until September 10, 2023, making it the second time 32 teams will participate and the first time in its history that it has been hosted by several nations: the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia.
It will be the second time the Philippines and Japan have hosted the World Cup since they did so the first time in 1978 and 2006, respectively. Indonesia's going to be hosting a football World Cup for the 1st time. The event will mark the second of three World Cups in a row to be held in Asia after those hosted by China in 2019 and Qatar in 2027, and it will mark the first time in tournament history that a host nation did not qualify.
The tournament will take place in three stages, namely the Group Stage, Second Round, and Final phase, in comparison with the 2019 edition. The 32 teams that qualify will be grouped into eight groups of four A.H., and each team is to play the other once during the group stage. After this, the top two teams in each group will be promoted to the next round. Then, in order to determine the 17th and 32nd positions, two classification games will be played between the lowest two teams.
There will be four groups (I–L) of four made up of the teams that advanced from the first round, playing each other again once in the second round. The remaining phase will be open to the best two teams from groups I to L. To determine the 5th to 8th positions, teams that have lost in the Round of Eight will play classification games.
