Brandin Podziemski's road to the limelight of organized Basketball finds its roots in his childhood. Born and raised in Wisconsin, he began playing basketball in his early teens and quickly developed a passion for the sport. Upon arrival at St. John’s North-western High School, it took only a few months before he took the School’s High School Basketball team by storm.
After collectively averaging an astounding 30 points per game (approx) throughout High School, it was only a matter of time before Institutes came knocking with promising opportunities.
His time with Illinois Fighting Illini
Podziemski's early life was defined by his love of basketball. He spent countless hours practising and honing his skills, determined to become one of the best players in the game. His hard work paid off when he earned a spot on the Illinois Fighting Illini roster.
During his time with Illinois, Podziemski just couldn’t perform to his full potential. As his freshman season came to a close, the stats portrayed a startling reality. In the 26 games that Brandin played for Illinois (including the conference tournament), he averaged a disappointing one point per game on approx. 3.5 minutes of playtime per game.
This showed a clear difference of opinion between him and Illinois’ team management who just weren’t too high on the sensation of Brandin Podziemski and the impact it created. After leaving Illinois, Podziemski transferred to Santa Clara University.
Joining the Santa Clara Broncos
By the end of the 2022 season, most fans were shocked as to why Santa Clara showed no interest towards signing Brandin right out of High School. Santa Clara proved to be the place where he was allowed to play his natural game and evolve as a consistent performer for the Broncos. Right from minutes played to Points per game, every metric witnessed a jump in numbers.
In the 2022-23 season, Brandin averaged nearly nine rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.8 steals, 0.5 blocks, and 19.9 points per game with 48 % field goal shooting and 43 % three-point shooting on thirty-six minutes played per game.
Knowing his role in the team was now particularly significant, he stepped up his game as the Broncos entered the WCC Conference contention.
Brandin averaged a respectable 21.4 points, 8.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.1 steals with 52 percent field goal shooting and 51 percent three-point shooting on 35.5 minutes played per game.
His impressive performances have made him one of Santa Clara's most trusted Shooting guards and players on the roster.
Overall, Brandin Podziemski's dedication and hard work have propelled him towards success in college basketball. With each passing year, it seems likely that we will continue seeing great things from him as he continues developing into one of America's top guards on both ends of respective courts.
