Dillon Mitchell is among the highly skilled athletes who play for the Texas Longhorns of the Big 12 Conference. Coming out of Montverde Academy, Dillon was among the top-tier High School Basketball recruits looking to take his skills to a reputed College of his choice and perform to the best of his potential.

Commitment to the University of Texas

Being one of the top High School Basketball athletes in the country, it was certain that reputed Institutions would reach out to Dillon with an opportunity which he wouldn’t be able to refuse.

Dillon received offers from Vanderbilt, Florida State, Penn State, Ohio State, and Miami among others. After carefully considering his on-hand options, Dillon committed to the University of Texas on October 25, 2021.

Before the start of the 2022-2023 season, experts were split about his potential, stating that College Basketball will not be an easy road to navigate but if he sticks to his basics, then he has a good chance to create an impact in his first year.

Being a good field goal shooter from inside the arc, the Longhorns team management had an overall positive perception of his abilities on the court as the Longhorns prepared to play their first game of the season against the UTEP Miners.

Dillon Mitchell's Time with the Texas Longhorns

Being new to collegiate-level Basketball, Mitchell showed signs of restraint in terms of scoring and passing the ball to his teammates. Throughout his freshman year with the Longhorns, he lacked consistency in rebounding, assists, scoring, and steals made.

Let us understand this from his first couple of games from the 2022 season. In his first game against the UTEP Miners, Mitchell played 20 minutes and scored 4 points with zero steals, rebounds, assists, and blocks to his name.

In his second game against the Houston Huskies, Mitchell scored ten points along with twelve rebounds and one block.

Overall, Mitchell averaged nearly four rebounds, 0.4 assists, 0.6 steals, 0.4 blocks, and four points per game on 63% shooting from the field.

Looking towards the 2023-24 season, chances are Mitchell will play a more contributive role and will have more opportunities to showcase his offensive abilities significantly towards his team's success on the court. However, he will have to make the most of the chances he gets.

As one of Texas’ standout forwards with the possibility of becoming one of the breakout performers next season, many experts predict that we'll see him taking on more prominent roles during games - whether it is through scoring points or leading defensive plays.

All things considered, Dillon Mitchell is one player who deserves our attention throughout these upcoming seasons. Whether you're a fan of college basketball or just someone interested in exciting new talent emerging within sports today - keep your eyes peeled for any updates regarding this promising young athlete!
