Howard truly made a statement when he score a career-high 34 points against Iowa which made scouts see him as a real shooting threat on the team. Howard played 29 games in the season and started in all of them. He missed 5 games due to ankle injuries. In the season, he averaged 14.2 points per game making him the 2nd highest scorer on the team. He led the Michigan Wolverines in 3-pointers made with 78. In addition, he was 3rd on the team in terms of assists with 59 assists and 4th in blocks with 19 blocks throughout the season. At the University of Michigan, Howard won the Big Ten Freshman of the Week, made the All-Big Ten 3rd team by the media and had an honourable mention from the coaches. He also made the Big Ten All-Freshman team for the 2022-23 season.
