Keyontae Johnson has been one of the pure unmatched basketball talents this NCAA season. After recovering from a worrying setback related to his heart condition, many expressed their concerns saying this might be the end of Johnson’s Basketball career. But Keyontae defied the odds and made his comeback in 2023 and went on to have an amazing season of College Basketball. Let us look into his collegiate career thus far.

Keyontae Johnson began his collegiate Basketball career with the Gators in 2018. He had an average first season representing Florida, averaging 8 points, 6 rebounds, one assist, and one steal per game on 47% field goal percentage.

His second season however, was a complete change in style of play where he quickly became a star Small forward and caught the attention of College balls fans in Florida. He averaged 14 points and 7 rebounds per game on 54% field goal shooting.

In December of 2020, he collapsed on the court and communicated with limited response. The Incident was later concluded to be linked to a heart condition which prohibited him from competing for over a year.

His Time with the Kansas State Wildcats

Once he got cleared to play, he moved to Kansas State and worked on his Basketball. This move came as somewhat of a surprise to many fans who had always watched him play for the Gators. Nonetheless, the recovery and the return to the court was no small feat.

Since joining Kansas State, Keyontae has continued to play like he never left the game. Many were impressed by his style of play which made him a popular player in the first place.

In his first season back with a new team, Johnson averaged 17 points, 6.8 rebounds, two assists, and one steal per game with a field goal percentage of 51.

In the conference stages he scored with even better consistency, averaging 18 points per game on 50% shooting in 18 games played which is no small feat to achieve and maintain.

Keyontae announced that late last month in April that he wishes to maintain college eligibility in case he doesn’t get drafted. If he does make a return to Kansas, we fans can be assured for a fun season of College Basketball.

Overall, what sets Keyontae Johnson apart from other players is his work ethic. He is constantly pushing himself both physically and mentally in order to improve his game and take things up another notch whenever possible. This dedication is evident in every aspect of how he approaches playing basketball - from training sessions through game-day preparation all way long into actual matches themselves!
