Terrence Shannon Junior arrived on the College Basketball scene with determination and an urge to showcase his skills to the wider Basketball audience. Having attended Lincoln Park High School in Chicago, Terrence was consistent in his scoring, averaging 15 points and eight rebounds per game. However, not receiving Division I offers compelled him to make some changes. Shifting to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida gave his skills the necessary exposure and Division I offers from some of the best Institutions in the country.
Commitment to Texas Tech University
Terrence got offers from Wake Forest, Florida State, DePaul, Virginia Tech, Texas Tech, and Illinois among others. Terrence initially committed to DePaul before changing his mind and signing with Texas Tech in July 2019.
His decision to join the Red Raiders was seen as a major win for the program, and fans were excited to see what he would bring to the team.
His Time with the Texas Tech Red Raiders
During his time at Texas Tech, Shannon proved that he was worthy of all the hype surrounding him. He quickly became one of the team's most valuable players and played a key role in their success during both his freshman and sophomore seasons.
In his three seasons with the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Terrence Junior averaged 11 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and one steal per game. Terrence’s most productive season was his Sophomore year where he averaged 12.9 points, 4 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.1 steals per game on 45% shooting.
While Shannon enjoyed much success at Texas Tech, there came a time when he decided it was time for a change. In 2022, he transferred from Texas Tech to play for another school to play for Illinois Fighting Illini.
Playing for the Illinois Fighting Illini
After entering the transfer portal on March 25, 2022, it was not until late April (2022) that he was now officially a part of the University of Illinois Basketball program.
Having left the Red jersey behind, Terrence accepted the Orange and White as the last jersey he would ever wear before going pro.
In his first season at Illinois, Terrence averaged 17.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.3 steals per game with a shooting percentage of 44.
There were some obvious improvements in Terrence Junior’s game, he was more determined, he took more shots, passed the ball more often, and scored with more consistency. Seeing his improvement gave the impression that he wasn’t able to play at his desired potential as a Red Raider but a change in team management fixed all that.
As Terrence looks forward to the next chapter of his basketball journey, Illinois fans are eager to see him return one last time before he goes professional. With any luck, Terrence Shannon Junior will continue to shine on the court and make a name for himself as one of college basketball's most talented players
