Dillon Mitchell is one of the top players to come out of Montverde Academy in Montverde, Florida. Due to his high-flying ability and exceptional athleticism, Mitchell was a consensus five-star recruit and was considered one of the best players in his class. Seeing his potential, multiple colleges were interested in recruiting him and Mitchell ended up committing to the Texas Longhorns.
High school career
In his freshman and sophomore years, Mitchell attended Sickles High School in Citrus Park, Florida. Mitchell didn’t play for the Varsity team in his freshman year but made the team in his sophomore year where he averaged 12.4 points, 9.5 rebounds and 4.4 assists along with 2.1 steals and 1.6 blocks a game while playing 27 games. Mitchell then transferred to Bishop McLaughlin Catholic High School in Spring Hill, Florida for his junior year. He played 28 games for the Varsity team there and averaged 17.5 points, 10.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists along with 1.5 steals and 2.1 blocks a game. In his final year, Mitchell transferred to Montverde Academy in Montverde, Florida.
This is where Mitchell broke out as a player and was getting attention from scouts as one of the top prospects and recruits in the country. In his final year, Mitchell played in the McDonald’s All-American game where he scored 9 points on a perfect 4 for 4 shooting in 22 minutes of play. He also played in the Jordan Brand Classic where he led all scorers with 18 points on an exceptional 9 for 10 shooting while grabbing 5 rebounds and also dishing out 3 assists in only 17 minutes. This performance earned Mitchell the MVP for the Jordan Brand classic. In addition to this, Mitchell also played in the Nike Hoop Summit, where he scored 6 points on 3 for 5 shooting.
Crediting his stellar final year, Mitchell became a consensus five-star recruit and on October 25 2021, Mitchell committed to playing for the Texas Longhorns while receiving offers from Florida State and Tennessee.
