The 6 foot 6 inch guard out of the University of Indiana is one of the exciting young prospects in the game of basketball. He took a liking to the game early on during his youth. The contributing factor could have been in part due to his athletic family background given that his father played quarterback in college and his mother was a basketball player.

Jalen Hood-Schifino is a player that can play effectively as a point guard or off the ball also. He has a good handle for the most part but at times is susceptible to turning the ball over on more than a few occasions. Of course, this can be partly attributed to the fact that Jalen is not an all-out point guard and if he is asked to play that position in the NBA then this is an area that needs some improvement.

Other than that, Hood-Schifino boasts of an excellent mid-range game which truthfully in today’s game is not as important as earlier. Nevertheless, it is always beneficial in having someone who can get you a couple of quick baskets. What stands out in his game on the offensive side of the ball is his ability to work the pick and roll. He can shoot the ball or pass the ball with equal effectiveness.

As for his defense, Jalen Hood-Schifino not only plays well against the smaller guards but can also defend against bigger players given his size and strength. Generally, he is excellent at navigating the screen as he makes his way in front of it. In short, Jalen is regarded as a well-rounded 1v1 defender.

Which high school did Jalen Hood-Schifino go to?

Jalen Hood-Schifino was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on June 19, 2003. Overall, he played for three different high schools in his 4-year tenure. For his freshman year, he went to Northside Christian Academy in Charlotte, North Carolina. He continued his sophomore year in North Carolina albeit attending a different school which was Combine Academy located in Lincolnton. He completed his high school education at Montverde Academy in Florida where he stayed for the final two years.

At Montverde Academy, he became a back-to-back 2 time GEICO High School Basketball National Champion which was in 2021 and 2022. In 2022 he was invited to the Jordan Brand Classic which is the high school basketball All-Star game. Jalen believes that his final two years at Montverde really prepared him for what would come in college basketball. The team used to practice for more than three hours a day and the grind was good preparation for the future.

Going forward, Jalen attended the University of Indiana in 2022 and played most of the team's basketball games as a starting point guard. With just one year of college basketball under his belt, it remains to be seen if the decision to enter the 2023 NBA Draft was a good one or not for Hood-Schifino.
