The NCAA tournament never fails to bring the best out of young athletes. Kansas star Jalen Wilson is one such star who is making strides toward the NBA. Topping the Big-12 bracket, Kansas couldn’t clear the second round this term, but Jalen Wilson remained one of the top stars of the competition.

Jalen Wilson attended John H. Guyer High School in Denton, Texas. He was born to Derale Wilson and Lisa Wilson on November 4, 2000, in Texas. His parent, being sports fanatics and athletes themselves introduced Jalen Wilson to the ball game at the age of four.

The talented star held the starter position for all four years, demonstrating the coach’s trust in the youngster. As a junior, Jalen averaged 16.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game. He improved his performance and averaged 18.1 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 3 assists per game in his senior year. Jalen won Class 6A All-State honors.

In his scouting report, Jalen received high praise for his shooting ability and skill. Commenting on his physical aspects, Jalen was complimented for being 6’8” in height and built. Jalen’s mother Lisa Wilson worked closely with Jalen on his shooting and game IQ, which reflected positively on his scouting report. The report mentions that Jalen has good shot preparation, shot mechanics, and good range and he is also a good passer.

Texas-born Jalen Wilson managed to make a mark on the basketball court during his college days. Wilson had previously committed to play collegiate basketball for Michigan. But he was available again following the resignation of head coach John Beilein. Jalen Wilson chose Kansas over offers from other colleges.

He averaged 12.1 points per game with 7.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game, despite missing his whole junior year. In his final year, Jalen had a huge 20.3-point average with 8.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game aggregate. He won the NCAA championship in 2022 and also won the prestigious Julius Ewing Award in 2023.

Jalen helped his team to top the Big-12 bracket with a 28-8 record and was named 2023 Big-12 Player of the Year. Similarly, Wilson was a consensus four-star recruit in the 2019 class. He forgoes the 2022 NBA draft to complete his education and is now destined for the big and bright future ahead in the NBA.
