Which school did Angel Reese transfer from? Exploring the champion’s NCAA career

The NCAA Women's Tournament is in the books as LSU took down Caitlin Clark and Iowa 102-85 to secure the program's first championship. At the heart of the victory was the strong play of Angel Reese, who took the internet by storm for a number of reasons.

Reese finished with 15 points, 10 rebounds and five assists and was one of the best players in college basketball throughout the season. She talks the talk, walks the walk and was not shy about letting Caitlin Clark hear about the victory as the clock wound down.

Many have been critical of Reese for not being more gracious in the victory, while others have clapped back, saying it was not an issue when Clark acted similarly during the tournament. Regardless, this should not overshadow the impressive play of Reese and the difficult path that took her to this stage.

Angel Reese's journey to LSU

After growing up in Maryland, Angel Reese was a five-star recruit and the second-ranked prospect in the 2020 class. She committed to Maryland and passed up on offers to South Carolina, Tennessee, USC and Syracuse. Reese credited it due to her relationship with Maryland coach Brenda Frese, who started recruiting her in eighth grade.

Reese played point guard for most of her high school career but had a late growth spurt to sprout to 6-foot-3. She had success at Maryland but did not have the biggest role. As a freshman, she averaged 10.0 ppg and 6.0 rpg in 15.2 minutes per game, making the Big 12 All-Freshman team. She battled injuries, most notably a Jones fracture in her foot, and was limited to just 15 games.

As a sophomore, Resse saw her role grow. She averaged 17.8 ppg and 10.8 rpg in 25.8 minutes per game. Reese helped lead Maryland to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament and was honored with first-team All-Big Ten and All-Defensive team as well as third-team All-American honors.

Following the season, Reese entered the transfer portal and landed at LSU. She has further grown into the superstar she is and was the centerpiece of LSU during the championship run.

On the season, she averaged 23.0 ppg, 15.4 rpg and 1.6 bpg. LSU went 34-2, and Reese was recognized with a number of awards. She was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player, a unanimous first-team All-American, and a member of the first-team All-SEC and SEC All-Defensive Teams.

At 20 years old and with two years of eligibility remaining, Angel Reese cannot declare for the WNBA draft until 2024. She will be returning to LSU next season unless she makes a surprising decision to transfer once again.
